The events of the last 10 days plunged me into a bit of a quandary. It is no big deal nowadays if your computer is taken by the police as the result of an investigation. Another laptop can be quickly bought for a few hundred pounds, perhaps even cheaper If you buy a refurbished one.
The real inconvenience for me was the fact all my usernames and passwords were gone. I am using that many different sites which require a login that there is no point in trying to memorise them. All my details were stored on a couple of Microsoft Works documents on my computer. The only username and password I could remember was the Facebook one, plus my email address but I did not know my email password.
Eventually I was able to find my way through the mindboggling Windows8 maze and find the function which allowed me to reset my email password. There was just one problem, I had to answer the security question which was, “What is your favourite movie?”
I could not remember if I had answered it with the name of my actual favourite movie or simply answered it with anything I could think of. So I had to think, as you are only allowed about 3 goes to get the correct answer. I thought for a while and came to the conclusion Kelly`s Heroes would be my favourite movie, now I had to work out if I had given that answer or some other answer. After a little while I made a guess and got the right answer. This got me into the email account from which I was eventually enabled to reset the password and user name of this blog.
To think the way I think you would need to be paranoid but as a friend said a few months ago, “Paranoid people live longer.”
Here is a few clips from Kelly`s Heroes.
