Last night, some friends were talking about a certain topic which had been discussed on a radio talk show yesterday.  It was the subject of  music and emotions.  There is no doubt music can  exert  a powerful influence on people`s emotions and mindset.

Here is a selection of what I would class as emotive musical samples.

This is very famous, note the reaction of the audience.

This is possibly the most absurd and egotistical song ever written yet even the most perverse of people find it moving.

Anyone who gets their “own way” all their earthly days will inevitably end up in hell.

Note carefully what the Bible says about going “our own way” and getting “our own way.” Isaiahn53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

This is a famous and moving Christian hymn. The tune is also used for the Hymn “Jesus Only.”

Here is another very moving Christian Hymn, it is titled “Be Still My Soul.”

Here is the same tune, this time it is being sung as the national anthem of Finland, Finlandia.

In 1 Samuel 16 the narrative relates how King Saul was troubled in his mind, so his minions sought out an accomplished musician who could play music which would have a calming influence on Saul.  Perhaps modern man underestimates the effect “music” has on the emotions and mental attitude of individuals.

1 Sam 16:23 And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
