Major Farron`s Hat by David Ceasarani

Last night VBC broadcast a programme about the activities of a British Army unit which operated in N.Ireland in the early 1970s.  Most of the stuff in it has been on the internet for years.

At one stage the programme highlighted “Hamish” McGregor.  There was also mention of a Thompson sub machine gun.  I am not going to give you all the details, you will find it much more interesting to do it yourself.

This is just to get you started. If you google, “Major Farron`s Hat” it will lead to you a story which highlights the activities of some British army units operating in Israel prior to the state of Israel being formed. This was known as the period of “The British Mandate.”

The father of “Hamish” McGregor was involved in the same type of undercover work as Hamish.  Both he and Roy Farron were involved in the murder of a young Jewish lad called Alexander Rubowitz.

So, there you have it, all you have to do is google the terms “Major Farron`s Hat” and google the name “Alexander Rubowitz”  and you should get enough information to keep you occupied for hours.  You may even come across the information that the machine gun mentioned in last night`s programme was the one used by Hamish McGregor`s father when he was in the Middle east.

If you look closely at the picture below, you will find it contains two Hebrew words.  It says “We shall not forgive, We shall not forget.”
